KWAM1’s Apology: AGF and IG Will Make the Decision, States NCAA

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) reiterated on Friday that the decision regarding fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, widely known as K1 de Ultimate or KWAM 1, will rest with the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police, to whom complaints against the artist have been submitted.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, NCAA spokesman Michael Achimugu made this statement in response to KWAM1’s public apology following his contentious encounter with officials from ValueJet Airline at the local terminal of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

In a personally signed statement released to Saturday Beats on Friday, KWAM1 referred to the incident as "unfortunate," emphasizing that it was never his intention to create any disturbance or breach aviation regulations in any manner.

The altercation at the airport was recorded in a video that went viral on Wednesday, showing KWAM1 seemingly attempting to hinder the aircraft’s departure.

The event sparked significant public outrage, leading to a six-month flying ban imposed on the singer by both the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and the NCAA.

Additionally, the pilots involved in the incident were suspended and are currently under investigation.

On Thursday, the NCAA announced that it had submitted a petition to the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police, requesting an investigation and prosecution of KWAM1.

Nevertheless, the singer issued an apology for his actions in a video that circulated online on Friday afternoon.

When inquired about the NCAA’s subsequent actions following KWAM1’s apology, the spokesman indicated that he had not yet seen the apology.

He further emphasized that the NCAA does not possess the authority to prosecute the case, stating, "We have referred the matter to the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General of the Federation, who are more suitably positioned to determine and communicate the next steps."

In response, the Minister of  aviation
